THE STORY BEHIND
Oromia (spelled Oromiyaa in the Oromo language) is one of the nine ethnically based regional states of Ethiopia, covering 284,538 square kilometers. Jimma is one of the zones of the Ethiopian Region of Oromia and is named after the former Kingdom of Jimma, which was absorbed into the former province of Kaffa in 1932. Jimma is bordered on the south by the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region, the northwest by Illubabor, on the north by Misraq Welega, and on the northeast by Mirab Shewa. Two large production areas became famous in old Kaffa province: Limu that produces washed coffees and Djimmah producing natural coffees. Djimmah now accounts for half of the country exports in coffee.
In 2015 for the first year it has been developed a grade-2 Djimmah from a coffee forrest that has a beautiful biodiversity in terms of trees and wildlife species. Located in the woreda Seka (woreda are zones) between 1600 and 1700m above sea level, this plantation is a magnificent forest of 650 hectares, of which 420 are planted with coffee, which belongs to Blen Berhane, owner of Plantation Bazen plc. The Olma plantation is divided into four areas, in majority planted between 2000 and 2008. The dominant moka found in this plantation are 74110, 74158, 74165, 74140.
This plantation yields are very low: 400kg per hectare for the 2013/2014 harvest while the most productive farms in the region produce 1.2 tons per hectare. The coffee is dried on African beds for 15 days and stirred 5 times a day. The end of drying is done on cemented area for about 5 days, allowing the humidity levels to stay below 12%.
